As a Montreal based brand, we feel it is important to support or fellow local designers. Whether you know it or not, there are a lot more than you may think. From clothing companies to jewelry, passing by leather goods and shoes, these designers are worth knowing and, who knows, maybe you will fall under their charm just like we did.
Here are some of our favorite local brands.
Odeyalo is a fashion brand created in 2016 by Yana Gorbulsky and Marie-Eve Proulx. They are a “Slow fashion” brand which means they offer high-quality pieces that are minimalistic and that can stay an essential in your wardrobe for longer than a season. Their entire production is made in Montreal.
Fun fact about this company, they offer a four-season bike delivery service.
Betina Lou was created in 2009 by Marie-Eve Emond, passionate by ethical fashion. The brand offers a selection of timeless feminine clothing. They prone longevity. In 2015 they launched the brand Marmier, offering masculine classical pieces. Each item is design and cut in Montreal and they assembled by local seamstresses.
Created in 2014, all of their clothing item are designed and made in Quebec. They prone slow fashion, where they focus on quality over quantity. They’re also transparent when it comes to the cost of their clothes, so their customers can understand clearly the final cost.
Fun fact : since 2019, for every clothing item sold, they give back 1$ to the “Book Humanitaire” foundation, helping people in need.
This jewelry company was created by the designer Agathe Bodineau. The pieces are inspired by many things such as architecture, visual art, each being minimalistic. Every piece is made by hand and the entire process in entirely done in Montreal. Her work was featured in many media outlets like vogue and Elle Magazine.
The brand was founded in 2017 by the designer Madeleine Beaulieu. The designs of the products are inspired by origami and jewelry and made in high-quality Italian vegetable-tanned leather. Every product is handcrafted in Montreal.
Fun fact: Their name was inspired by the phrase “par toi-même”, meaning “on your own” in French.
The brand was created in 1987, and even now all of their products are designed in Montreal and over 90% of them are also made in Montreal. They offer a wide range of leather bags as well as accessories, jackets and outerwear. They prone trial and error and believe that the best results comes from experimentation.
The brand offers multiple unisex products, such as shoes, bags and wallet. Their shoes are thought as pieces of art, each of them made from hand in Montreal from high quality leather. They often collaborate with different artists to create unique pieces. They strongly wish to disturb the current fashion industry by entering the “slow fashion” movement.
The boutique was created by two sisters, Myriam and Romy in 2017. They are a direct-to-consumer brand trying to disrupt fashion footwear. All of the styles are designed by them and every material used is sourced from well-chosen manufacturers. The mission of the brand is to offer high-quality items at good prices available to all.
Montreal is known for its fashion industry but is overlooked because of all of the big fast fashion players. I hope we made you discover new brands and encouraged you to shop locally.
